.UPDATE...
Issued 930 PM CDT Wed Apr 30 2025

region. more moist air will push in later tonight bring
widespread rain to much of southern WI.

.SHORT TERM...
Issued 307 PM CDT Wed Apr 30 2025
Tonight through Friday:
An area of showers in northern Illinois may clip parts of
southeast Wisconsin into this evening, as an area of 850 mb warm
air advection and frontogenesis response pushes through that
area. Otherwise, middle to high clouds will continue to move
into the area this evening.
A more organized area of showers will gradually spread
northeast into and through the area mainly later tonight into
Thursday morning, as low pressure passes by just to the
southeast of the area. Forecast soundings continue to show deep
saturation during this time, with modest upward vertical
motion. Kept higher PoPs (75 percent or higher) for most of the
area during this period. There may be a few rumbles of thunder
across the area, with very weak elevated CAPE. Most of any
convection should remain in northern Illinois.
A trailing 500 mb shortwave trough may bring some more
scattered shower activity Thursday afternoon. Another slower
moving 500 mb shortwave trough moving through the region Friday,
with a weak surface low and cold front, will keep some shower
chances going through that period.
Highs should remain in the 50s north and east on Thursday,
reaching around 60 to the southwest. Upper 50s to lower 60s are
forecast for Friday, as there should be partly cloudy skies.

.LONG TERM...
Issued 307 PM CDT Wed Apr 30 2025
Friday night through Wednesday:
High pressure is expected to build into the region Friday night
and Sunday, then shift to the southeast Sunday night into early
next week. This should bring a mostly dry period to the area
Friday night into Sunday, with seasonable temperatures per
ensembles. There is a little uncertainty with PoPs for Sunday
night into Monday, as a few ensemble members are showing some
light rainfall with a meandering 500 mb low. Kept slight chance
(20 percent) PoPs for now, though the trend is drier for this
period and it may end up dry.
Ensembles remain relatively dry into the middle of next week,
with a general warming trend, as 500 mb cluster analysis
indicates a ridge axis developing over the region.

.AVIATION...
Issued 930 PM CDT Wed Apr 30 2025
VFR conditions continue for now with dry air keeping CIGS higher
and rain out of the region. However, rain chances and lower CIGS
will begin to push in during the early morning hours as the
system pushes in from the south. Rain will be moderate at times
with VSBYS likely falling to MVFR and period of IFR VSBYS
possible. In addition, MVFR CIGS will fall further to IFR and
even LIFR near the lake by daylight hours. Rain will gradually
push out over the course of the day Thursday into the afternoon
and early evening. Low CIGS may improve slightly but with
another chance for showers Thursday night MVFR to IFR CIGS will
stick around into Friday morning.

.MARINE...
Issued 307 PM CDT Wed Apr 30 2025
High pressure around 30.4 inches will move east of the region
tonight, with low pressure around 29.6 inches shifting northeast
into northeast Illinois. Steady easterly winds will persist
through tonight.
The low will move through southern Lower Michigan Thursday and
northeast of there Thursday night. Winds will shift to the
northeast over northern portions of the lake, with south to
southwest winds to the south. Winds will become north to
northwest Thursday night across the entire lake.
Another weak low pressure system around 29.6 inches will move
east across the region on Friday, along with a cold front. Winds
will become northwesterly Friday behind the front. High
pressure around 30.1 inches will then return to the Upper Great
Lakes for the weekend, bringing quiet weather and light winds.
